At once you find traces of [Moroccan painter] Chaïbia Talal, [of French artist Henri] Matisse, [of also-French Paul] Gauguin and [of Spain’s Pablo] Picasso,” Bourquin explains.

According to her, being a contemporary artist whose work conveys an Afro-Brazilian identity, Menelaw fits into the exhibition’s theme of transculturality. The 24-piece showing pays tribute to Chaïbia Talal, a Moroccan painting icon according to Bourquin.

Menelaw Sete’s career spans almost 30 years, and his art has been featured in France, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, England and the United States, in over fifty international exhibits.
