S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazilian fine artist Menelaw Sete is exhibiting in Morocco for the first time. With backing from the Embassy of Brazil in Rabat, artworks by the Salvador, Bahia-born painter and sculptor will be featured at Le Casablanca Hot\u00eal, in Casablanca, from Wednesday (28) until April 11. Admission is free.<\/p>\n

Exhibition\u00a0Transculturalit\u00e9 et Brassage<\/em> (Transculturality and Creation) is organized by the Brazilian-born, Moroccan-based Ana Claudia Bourquin. \u201cMenelaw has come at my invitation,\u201d the producer said. \u201cThis is his first time in Morocco.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ana Claudia found out about the work of Menelaw Sete a few years ago and was impressed with his strong lines and colors. \u201cHe is a multiple artist when it comes to conception. At once you find traces of [Moroccan painter] Cha\u00efbia Talal, [of French artist Henri] Matisse, [of also-French Paul] Gauguin and [of Spain\u2019s Pablo] Picasso,\u201d Bourquin explains.<\/p>\n

According to her, being a contemporary artist whose work conveys an Afro-Brazilian identity, Menelaw fits into the exhibition\u2019s theme of transculturality. The 24-piece showing pays tribute to Cha\u00efbia Talal, a Moroccan painting icon according to Bourquin.<\/p>\n

Menelaw Sete\u2019s career spans almost 30 years, and his art has been featured in France, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, England and the United States, in over fifty international exhibits. He is also known as the \u201cBrazilian Picasso,\u201d according to his Facebook profile<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Embassy of Brazil in Rabat provided full cultural and institutional support to the exhibit. The Embassy\u2019s Facebook profile features a video of the fine artist \u2013 who\u2019s also a singer \u2013 playing his acoustic guitar and singing the song Asa Branca with some of his paintings in the background.<\/p>\n

Pendant deux semaines, cet artiste cosmopolite exposera des toiles originales et uniques qui nous viennent d\u2019un Br\u00e9sil o\u00f9 se croisent les influences et les couleurs de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique du sud, d\u2019Afrique et d\u2019Europe et o\u00f9 s\u2019interp\u00e9n\u00e8trent les courants culturels de l\u2019Humanit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

L\u2019exposition de Menelaw Sete se veut d\u2019embl\u00e9e un carrefour des cultures, telles qu\u2019elles sont exprim\u00e9es dans son travail. La technique, les couleurs, les motifs et cette profondeur dans l\u2019inspiration africaine qui conf\u00e8re \u00e0 sa peinture une dimension cosmique. Natif et citoyen de Bahia, il a grandi dans une ville de soleil, face \u00e0 la mer, mais habit\u00e9 par un subtil m\u00e9lange de Picasso, de Matisse, un Goya hant\u00e9 par la souffrance et des grands ma\u00eetres de la peinture na\u00efve qu\u2019il synth\u00e9tise dans un tour de main agile.<\/p>\n
