The company, based in the city of S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Campos (SP), had revenues of US$ 626.2 million, a 7.1% increase over the total for the same period in 2003. Net income totalled US$ 103.3 million.<\/P><br \/> <P>A total of 23 aircraft were delivered in the period, the same as in the first quarter last year, being 14 ERJ 145, commercial aircraft for up to 50 passengers, one EMB 145 for the defence sector, and another eight Embraer 170, an aircraft for up to 78 people.<\/P><br \/> <P>According to information supplied by the company, &quot;deliveries in the first quarter are normally lower than those in subsequent quarters.&quot; Despite the same number of jets being sold, revenues rose due to the first deliveries of the Embraer 170, one of the most expensive aeroplanes.<\/P><br \/> <P>The company also announced the investment of US$ 59.4 million in research and development in the period, including investment in the development of defence programs and industrial improvement.<\/P><br \/> <P>According to the report published, the Embraer order backlog totals US$ 10,9 billion in firm orders, and 439 aircraft.
