S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The secretary-general of the International Halal Accreditation Forum (IHAF), Mohamed Saleh Badri, met this Tuesday (23) with the president of the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), Carlos Augusto de Azevedo, in Rio de Janeiro. According to Alaby, they discussed a cooperation agreement between the IHAF and Inmetro. Based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the IHAF aims to internationally unify the procedures of the halal certification and the accreditation of certification bodies. Halal are those products allowed for the consumption of Muslims.<\/p>\n
Badri had anticipated the topic in a seminar about Islamic economy held at the headquarters of the Arab Chamber, in S\u00e3o Paulo, on Monday (22). \u201cThey want to sign a cooperation agreement as to, in the future, standardize the halal procedures of production, storage and commercialization of products, and also the accreditation of halal certification bodies in Brazil,\u201d said Alaby. A memorandum of understanding could be signed soon.<\/p>\n
Also at the meeting were the general consul of the United Arab Emirates in S\u00e3o Paulo, Ibrahim Salem Alalawi, and Inmetro\u2019s director of compliance assessment, Luiz Antonio Louren\u00e7o Marques, and director of scientific and technology metrology, Humberto Siqueira Brandi. <\/p>\n
