São Paulo – The index that measures Brazilian’s expectations over the improvement of the country’s economy went up 4% year-over-year. The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) is measured by credit consulting company Serviço de Proteção ao Crédito (SPC Brasil) and by the National Confederation of Retail Business Owners (CNDL). Between January 2017 and this year’s first month, the index went from 41.9 points to 43.6 points.<\/p>\n
The index, however, hasn’t reached the level equivalent to optimism. By the survey’s methodology, in a 0-to-100 scale, the higher the number the more optimistic is the interviewee. A number below 50 points means a pessimistic perception.<\/p>\n
Over half of the 801 consumers surveyed (59%) showed are expecting an improvement in their financial status in the next six months. For 21%, consumers are buying more, and 20% believe that the unemployment rate is declining. <\/p>\n
