<\/p>\nSão Paulo – The Brazilian film “Era o Hotel Cambridge” (2017, 99 min), also known by its festival working title Hotel Cambridge, will be screened at the Women’s Film Week, in Amman, Jordan, this weekend. UN Women, in cooperation with Jordan’s Royal Film Commission and embassies, is organizing the sixth edition of the festival, which begins this Thursday (15) and runs until Sunday (18), with free admission. There will be eight movies screened, with showings at 6 pm and 8 pm, throughout the event’s four days, at The Rainbow Theater, in Jebel Amman.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian movie will close the festival on Sunday’s last showing. The other titles are from the United States, Canada, India, France, Jordan and Lebanon. The event is a tribute to International Women’s Day.<\/p>\n
Ghada Saba, the festival’s artistic director, talked about the importance of projects that underscore women’s production and that features women characters that deconstruct stereotypes. “Women still have secondary roles and get paid less than men; we want to break these standards, but we’re at the beginning of a long journey that’s still met with resistance by society,” she said, according to the event’s website.<\/p>\n
Saba also pointed out the importance of the current movements for gender equality in the film industry and outside of it, and for the end of violence and sexual harassment against women.<\/p>\n
National representation<\/strong><\/p>\n “Era o Hotel Cambridge” is a drama directed by Eliane Caffé and tells the story of a group of refugees that shares with organized homeless people a building occupation in downtown São Paulo. In the day-to-day tension caused by the constant threat of eviction, drama, happiness and different worldviews from the characters arise. <\/p>\n The film won Audience Choice’s Best Film award at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival and at the São Paulo International Film Festival, and the award of the Jury’s Best Film at the Festival Aruanda do Audiovisual Brasileiro in João Pessoa, Paraíba, among other awards and participations in film festivals in Brazil and abroad. <\/p>\n The movie will be screened on Sunday (18) at 8 pm, with original audio in Portuguese and English subtitles.<\/p>\n Quick info<\/strong><\/p>\n Women’s Film Week Official trailer:<\/p>\n
