Brasília – Blairo Maggi, the minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, said this Tuesday (20) at the World Water Forum, in Brasília, that 90% of the Brazilian agricultural production uses rainwater. According to him, only 10% of the sector uses water collected by irrigation systems.<\/p>\n
“The water is recycled in the [agricultural] process, there’s no water exporting. Sometimes, they say that 15,000 liters of water is required to produce 1 Kg of meat. This is not true, it’s an urban tale. It’s something that was said, continue to be said but doesn’t have any scientific explanation. The truth is that one kilogram of meat doesn’t use one liter of water. We do farming in Brazil without irrigation, it’s only a natural use of rainwater that we have,” said Maggi, closing the debates of the Panel Water for Agriculture and Food Production. <\/p>\n
