São Paulo – Brazilian dermatologist Leopoldo Duailibe Nogueira Santos spoke this Wednesday in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on hair dermatology. He delivered three lectures at the Dubai World Dermatology and Laser Conference & Exhibition (Dubai Derma), which ran from March 19 to 21 in the Middle East country. <\/p>\n
Santos covered trichoscopy, a magnifying glass-based hair loss diagnosis method, and frontal fibrosing alopecia, a newly-discovered condition that causes hair loss, especially in postmenopausal women. The third lecture was on diagnosis and treatment of hair loss for lupus patients. <\/p>\n
The physician told ANBA over the phone that he answered several questions from the audience, which comprised mostly dermatologists from across the Middle East and expatriates working in the region. According to Santos, most of the questions concerned frontal fibrosing alopecia, due to its relatively recent discovery. <\/p>\n
A native of Maranhão, Brazil, Santos holds a Medical degree from Santo Amaro University (Unisa) and completed his residency at the University of Taubaté (Unitau), both in the state of São Paulo. He lives and works out of São Paulo, at Santa Casa and in a private practice. Santos does work as a practitioner and in transplants. He grew interested in hair dermatology during his residency in Taubaté.<\/p>\n
Besides his background in Brazil, the 35-year-old doctor spent a year at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, seeing patients and doing research. He also spent six months as an observer at the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland. <\/p>\n
The physician has lectured out of Brazil before. The invitation to speak in Dubai came from Hassan Galadari, head of Dubai Derma’s Scientific Committee. A Lebanese descendant, he had been to Dubai once during a trip to Lebanon. <\/p>\n
Santos had talks regarding the sharing of knowledge in the field during the congress, although he stresses that nothing has been decided yet. In Brazil, the dermatologist is a member of a group of physicians of Lebanese descent. <\/p>\n
