Classes will take place on April 27 and 28. People aged 16 or older can enroll in the 30-seat course on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sescsp.org.br\/aulas\/150427_A+CIVILIZACAO+ARABEMUCULMANA+CLASSICA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sesc website<\/a>. Prices range from BRL 15 to BRL 50.<\/p>\n<p>The course will provide an overview of the eponymous civilization and discuss Islam and its contributions to science and culture, among other aspects of the Arab-Islamic world between the 11<sup>th<\/sup> and 14<sup>th<\/sup> centuries.<\/p>\n<p>The content will be based around the biographies of Ibn Khaldun, the Tunisian who\u2019s regarded as a founding father of modern historiography and sociology, and of Ibn Battuta, the Moroccan Berber explorer who\u2019s considered the biggest traveler in middle-age Islam. The intellectual challenges posed by the period will also be addressed.<\/p>\n<p>Beatriz Bissio holds degrees in History and Journalism.
