{"id":157363,"date":"2018-04-09T13:00:31","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T15:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=157363"},"modified":"2018-04-10T13:52:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T15:52:00","slug":"wake-ban-lift-sudan-targeted-foreign-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/wake-ban-lift-sudan-targeted-foreign-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"In wake of ban lift, Sudan targeted by foreign funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dubai \u2013 After economic embargoes on Sudan put in place by the United States were lifted last year, foreign direct investment flows into the African nation are progressing well, according to Sudan\u2019s Investment minister Mubarak Al Fadil Al Mahdi, who\u2019s in Dubai, UAE for the Annual Investment Meeting, which launched this Monday (9). \u201cLots of investments are coming in since the sanctions were lifted,\u201d the minister told ANBA.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_157329\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-157329\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-157329\" src=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/mubarak-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/mubarak-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/mubarak.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-157329\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Al Mahdi: much investment after ban ended<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He discussed a bevy of projects underway in the country, including ones in mining involving companies from Canada, Morocco and Australia. \u201cThere is also investment from Turkey in the new Khartoum Airport (in the namesake capital), slated for completion in 30 months at a cost of USD 1.1 billion,\u201d said Mahdi.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said there is Turkish investment in ports as well \u2013 specifically in the rebuilding of the \u201cold seaport of Suakin,\u201d a historic Sudanese city, in a drive to make it a tourist spot. \u201cAnd we are in talks with the UAE to build a gas-fired thermoelectric plant and a gas pipeline liking Port Sudan (in the Red Sea) and Khartoum,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mahdi added that United States companies are coming into Sudan\u2019s oil and food industries. \u201cThey are opening the first KFC and Pizza Hut in the country. I issued the license last week,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said that there Brazilian cooperation is currently in place in banana farming\u00a0\u2013 to improve the quality of fruit intended for export \u2013 and with Sudan\u2019s Kenana corporation, to make and export ethanol.
