S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The collection of the Imperial Museum, in Petr\u00f3polis (RJ), will the basis of the lecture to be given by Brazilian Maur\u00edcio Vicente Ferreira J\u00fanior (pictured above) on the Brazilian monarchy period on May 8, in Rabat, Morocco.<\/p>\n
Ferreira is the museum\u2019s director and will also discuss in the Arab country the importance of museums and historical archives to the definition and affirmation of a country\u2019s cultural identity.<\/p>\n
The museum\u2019s director was invited by Brazil\u2019s embassy in Rabat to speak in the event \u201cArchives and Museums \u2013 Protection and Conservation of the Common Cultural and Historic Heritage\u201d, organized as a tribute to the Portuguese Culture and Language Day, celebrated on May 5.<\/p>\n
The event will take place on Mohammed V University, which is one of the organizers, through its Institute for Hispanic-Lusophone Studies (IEHL), alongside the embassies of Brazil, Portugal and Angola in the Arab country. Ferreira is the guest of the Brazilian embassy and the other two embassies will also invite experts from their countries as speakers.<\/p>\n
Ferreira said that museums and archives are vital for national memory and history. Objects, documents and other items from these places tell the history and highlight the past of a country.<\/p>\n
For this reason, the director\u2019s lecture will be based on the collections of the Imperial Museum. The place holds Brazil\u2019s main collection of the monarchy period in the country, especially from the Second Empire, in which Brazil was ruled by emperor Dom Pedro II.<\/p>\n
Ferreira said that, since Morocco is a monarchy, there\u2019s a curiosity about Brazil\u2019s monarchy period. The Imperial Museum, according to its director, is a national reference regarding the period. The place, open to visitation, was Dom Pedro II\u2019s summer home and it holds from his throne to his crowns.<\/p>\n
Ferreira will speak in Portuguese in his lecture in Rabat, but there will be a translation to French. According to him, he will speak mostly to students interested in the Hispanic-Lusophone culture.<\/p>\n
It will be Ferreira\u2019s first time in Morocco. The speaker has a bachelor\u2019s degree in History from the Rio de Janeiro Federal University and a master\u2019s degree in Museums Arts and Studies from the State University of New York.<\/p>\n
Ferreira is in charge of the Imperial Museum since 2008 and does research for the Brazilian Institute of Museums of the Ministry of Culture. He has vast experience in the Arts, History and Historical Heritage and teaches these topics in universities.<\/p>\n
