S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The M\u00e1rio de Andrade library, downtown S\u00e3o Paulo, will host the third edition of The Mediterranean between the East and West: Cultural Formation and History of the World<\/em> in the afternoon of May 15. The event\u2019s goal is to present Lebanon as a place of coexistence and transit of cultures and values.<\/p>\n

The first edition took place in 2013 and it served as the basis for the book Dialogue of Civilizations<\/em>, launched by the publishing company of the Federal University of S\u00e3o Paulo (UNIFESP) in 2017, during the second edition of the event. The book was organized by Denise Milan (of Lebanese descent), Olg\u00e1ria Matos (of Syrian descent) and Javier Amadeo.<\/p>\n

According to Milan, who\u2019s also a visual artist and the event\u2019s organizer, \u201cthe idea is to search for everything that bring us together as human beings. Brazilians are made of this coexistence.\u201d To her, it\u2019s important to maintain the dialogue between all of the peoples that live in the region.<\/p>\n

The seminar will start at 2 pm with the presentation The past of the present: the History of the World and The Epic of Gilgamesh<\/em>, by professor Edward Alam. Followed, at 3pm, by the lecture Reflections on the History of the History of the World: Journey and World History in the 21st<\/sup> century<\/em>, by professor Youssef Rahme. Alam is the co-founder and Rahme the director of the Cedars Institute<\/a>, in Lebanon. At the end, a debate will take place.<\/p>\n

The event is free and tickets will be distributed at the venue one hour before starting time. The seminar is a partnership between the Chair Edward Said, of UNIFESP, the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP) and M\u00e1rio de Andrade library.<\/p>\n
