The state of Piau\u00ed, in the Northeast of the country, holds the second position for sales in the international market, with US$ 1.6 million. The first place was the state of S\u00e3o Paulo. <\/P><br \/> <P>Piau\u00ed is going to promote the XII Piau\u00ed Seminar on Apiculture, between September 1 and 3, at the campus of the Federal University of Piau\u00ed, in the city of Parna\u00edba, located 318 kilometres away from Teresina, capital city of the state. In the seminar, the capacitation of beekeepers will be discussed, as well as the adequate handling for breeding and preserving the bees and the economic and ecologic importance of the sector.<\/P><br \/> <P>Of the honey produced in Piau\u00ed, 80% comes from the semi-arid region. According to estimates of the Brazilian Apiculture Confederation, Brazil owned, in January 2004, about 4 million beehives producing 33,000 tonnes of honey per year.
