Bras\u00edlia \u2013 The demand for industrial goods in Brazil increased in April for the second consecutive month, as revealed by the IPEA Indicator of Apparent Consumption of Industrial Goods (IPEA). According to the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA), there was an increase of 1.2% in the demand in April over March.<\/p>\n

However, in the quarter that ended in April, the IPEA Index declined 1.4%. According to Leonardo Mello de Carvalho, IPEA\u2019s planning and research expert and author of the report, the basis for comparison was high in comparison to the quarter that ended in January. That\u2019s because this calculation took into account the \u201cgreat result of December 2017\u201d, with a 2% growth.<\/p>\n

The two parts of apparent consumption showed a positive result in April: the domestic production of goods (minus the exports), with a 1.3% growth, and imports of industrial goods, with a 2.6% increase.<\/p>\n

In the analysis of the major economic categories, the highlights were the capital goods and intermediate goods sectors.<\/p>\n
