{"id":196464,"date":"2018-06-26T16:56:43","date_gmt":"2018-06-26T19:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=196464"},"modified":"2019-06-30T12:41:50","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T15:41:50","slug":"small-businesses-account-40-dubais-gdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/small-businesses-account-40-dubais-gdp\/","title":{"rendered":"Small businesses account for 40% of Dubai\u2019s GDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Small and medium businesses account for 40% of Dubai\u2019s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as per an estimate released by the CEO of the Dubai Investment Development agency (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dubaifdi.gov.ae\/English\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dubai FDI<\/a>)<\/em>, Fahad Al Gergawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is estimated that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) contribute 40 percent to Dubai\u2019s GDP and employ 42 percent of the total workforce,\u201d the CEO was quoted by the UAE\u2019s state-run news outlet <a href=\"http:\/\/wam.ae\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Emirates News Agency<\/em><\/a> as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Gergawi said the \u201csignificance of such enterprises must not be overlooked as they are responsible for substantial employment and income generation opportunities across the world, thus playing a major role in poverty alleviation, socio-economic and sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CEO asserted that the UAE and Dubai governments are working to transform the country\u2019s business ecosystem by enhancing the ease of doing business, supporting new sectors and further developing SMEs.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 2002,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sme.ae\/English\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dubai SME<\/a>\u00a0is an arm of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai designed to foster development of SMEs. Dubai SME has since created a Business Village, comprising its headquarters and facilities for companies to have meetings in.<\/p>\n<p>Dubai SME also holds an annual contest for high school and university students, in a bid to foster entrepreneurship and new businesses, as well as a prize for young leading entrepreneurs, among other actions.
