S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The political scientist and university professor Fernando Sch\u00fcler will deliver a lecture on the elections, democracy and the challenges facing Brazil in 2019. Registrations are open and the event will take place at 9 am on August 15 at the Walid Yazigi Auditorium, in the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n

The second half of this year will see elections for president, state governors, senators and federal and state congressmen. Sch\u00fcler will give an overview of the alliance system and key issues surrounding the elections, plus the most likely scenarios on how the process will end.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat does each candidacy represent? How likely is each candidate to move on to a runoff election?\u201d, Sch\u00fcler said when inquired by ANBA on what he will cover in his address.<\/p>\n

Parties will also come together to support each of the leading presidential hopefuls. \u201cBased on that one can determine the profile of each candidacy,\u201d he said. Sch\u00fcler will also discuss TV time and campaign funding, which should be decisive aspects in the elections according to him.<\/p>\n

He will also go over the results of how political parties are currently organized in the country. The professor will give an overview of the political process in Brazil since the president\u2019s impeachment and a quick summary of incumbent president Michel Temer\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

Other subjects will include the prospects of renewal in the National Congress and major issues Brazil should address as of 2019, including structural reforms that can bring about long-term changes in the country.<\/p>\n

Sch\u00fcler is a professor at Insper, a writer for newspapers, a consultant with corporations and civil organizations in culture, political science, management and the third sector. He is also a former secretary of Justice and Social Development in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and sits on the board at Rio de Janeiro\u2019s Instituto Ibmec.<\/p>\n

He holds a doctorate degree in Philosophy from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and a PhD from Columbia University, in New York, plus specializations in Public Policies and Administration from Brazil\u2019s National School of Public Administration and in Ibero-American Cultural Management and Cooperation from the University of Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Sch\u00fcler is the founder and curator of Fronteiras do Pensamento\u00a0(<\/em>Frontiers of Thought), which sees scholars, artists, scientists and leaders in their fields deliver conferences and create content in a bid to analyze contemporaneity and future outlooks.<\/p>\n
