The Brazilian Ministry of Culture and the Niter\u00f3i City Hall launched a BRL 1 million (USD 259,223) investment line this Tuesday (17) for foreign filmmakers interested in shooting their motion pictures in the municipality.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry said a request for bids will be issued early next year. The initiative was launched during a ceremony at the Consulate of Brazil in Los Angeles, USA, with Culture minister S\u00e9rgio S\u00e1 Le\u00e3o and Niter\u00f3i mayor Rodrigo Neves in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Also launched was the Niter\u00f3i Film Commission, designed to increase the city\u2019s competitiveness as a location for national and international productions.<\/p>\n<p>The investment line and commission are part of Niter\u00f3i Cidade Audiovisual (Niter\u00f3i Audiovisual City), a bigger project intended to make Niter\u00f3i an audiovisual hub via a partnership established last year involving the City Hall, the Ministry of Culture and the Brazilian Film Agency (Ancine). The project relies on BRL 34 million (USD 8.8 million) in funds.<\/p>\n<p>Last April, an RFB was put out to invest BRL 6 million in 12 different types of actions as parto f this project. Preliminary results came out this week, and bidding ended on June 18.<\/p>\n<p>The RFB will support the production of short, medium and feature films, TV series, film distribution, audiovisual production and broadcasting, film clubs, film festivals and showings, research, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Niter\u00f3i has been a setting for several Brazilian films, including Elite Squad \u2013 The Enemy Within (2010), <em>Confessions of a Teenager <\/em>(2013), <em>Os Desafinados<\/em> (2008) and older productions like <em>Carlota Joaquina \u2013 Princesa do Brasil<\/em> (1995) and <em>Anchieta Jos\u00e9 do Brasil<\/em> (1977).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"credits-overlay\" data-target=\".wp-image-197594\">Danilo Borges\/MTUR<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Tuesday, a BRL 1 million investment line to fund the shooting of international movies in the Rio de Janeiro state municipality.
