He discussed the Chamber\u2019s activities and how it can assist Brazilian businesses. He also covered Arab culture and its impact on deal-making.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver 500 people attended, Alaby said. Most were foreign trade students, but executives in food, furniture and building materials \u2013 especially ceramic facing \u2013 were in the audience as well.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_199854\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199854\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/itaja\u00ed3.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-199854\" src=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/itaja\u00ed3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-199854\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event at Univali saw massive attendance<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI showed two videos on the Arab Chamber. After that I explained what the organization does, gave examples of the work we do, and discussed the Arab business culture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Arab Chamber opened an office in Itaja\u00ed in the first half of this year to cater to the needs of companies that ship product from the local seaport. The Chamber\u2019s Itaja\u00ed branch provides certificates of origin and export papers \u2013 the same as in its S\u00e3o Paulo headquarters. It also has a commercial advisor who\u2019s based in Santa Catarina capital Florian\u00f3polis and works across the entire state. During his lecture, Alaby introduced the staff of three who work at the local office as well as the commercial advisor.<\/p>\n<p>The opening of the local branch bred the idea of entering into an agreement with Univali to spread knowledge to students and executives regarding the business opportunities available in Arab countries. Other lectures on the Arab market will take place in September, October and November.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the audience for the lecture were the coordinator of Univali\u2019s Foreign Trade and Port Management courses, Manoel Ant\u00f4nio dos Santos, the director of its Business School, Sidney Vieira Marinho, and a delegate from the Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (Fiesc), Carlos Frederico da Cunha Teixeira.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, Alaby sat down with Itaja\u00ed Business Association president M\u00e1rio C\u00e9sar Aguiar and vice presidents Nivaldo Pinheiro and Laerson Batista da Costa. \u201cWe discussed the [Arab Chamber\u2019s] Itaja\u00ed office and the opportunities it can create for local businesses with regard to certification and the information it can provide,\u201d he said. According to Alaby, the local office is already carrying out about 200 certification processes each month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trade<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_199850\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199850\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/itaja\u00ed2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-199850\" src=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/itaja\u00ed2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-199850\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alaby discussed how Arabs go about doing business<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Exports from Santa Catarina to Arab countries amounted to USD 592.75 million last year, up 15% from 2016, Alaby said in his address. Poultry is by far the best-selling product \u2013 Santa Catarina is one of the leading poultry producing states in Brazil, and the Middle East is the biggest buyer of Brazilian poultry.
