{"id":201456,"date":"2018-09-24T11:31:51","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T14:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=201456"},"modified":"2019-06-30T12:40:11","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T15:40:11","slug":"egypt-shows-signs-of-strong-rebound-imf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/egypt-shows-signs-of-strong-rebound-imf\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt shows signs of strong rebound: IMF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imf.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Monetary Fund (IMF)<\/a> managing director Christine Lagarde said this Sunday (23) that Egypt\u2019s economy is \u201cshowing strong signs of recovery&#8221;. &#8220;Economic growth [in the country] is one of the highest in the Middle East,\u201d a statement quoted her as saying after a meeting in New York with Egypt\u2019s president Abdel Fattah El Sisi.<\/p>\n<p>A USD 12 billion Egypt-IMF loan agreement is in place since late 2016 to support economic reforms in the Arab country. The IMF expects Egypt\u2019s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to widen by 5.2% in the 2017-2018 fiscal year. In 2018-2019, the country is seen growing by 5.5%.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF said Lagarde and Sisi discussed the Egyptian government\u2019s reforms program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe agreed on the importance of capitalizing on Egypt\u2019s macroeconomic gains to advance the authorities\u2019 home-grown structural reforms,\u201d said Lagarde. \u201cThese reforms will help achieve more sustainable, inclusive and private-sector led growth which will help create jobs for Egypt\u2019s young population, while also ensuring adequate resources are available for social protection,\u201d she went on.<\/p>\n<p>In its latest loan review, the IMF said reforms were helping fuel growth, curb inflation and unemployment and reduce fiscal and external deficits.
