Outbound cargo slid 1.6%, while inbound cargo climbed 8.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Codesp said soybeans and wood pulp drove the hike.<\/p>\n<p>Year-to-date through August, the seaport handled 88.8 million tons, up 4% from a year ago, with outbound cargo climbing 2.2% and inbound cargo increasing by 8.5%.<\/p>\n<p>In the first eight months of 2018, the hike in volume was driven by wood pulp and citrus juice shipments, although Codesp noted that container shipping and soybeans also played relevant parts in this.<\/p>\n<p>The Port of Santos handled 387.800 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), up 14.6% from August 2017. Year-to-date through August, the facility saw 2.7 million TEU, an all-time high and up 11.1% from a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>The seaport accounted for 24.3% of Brazil\u2019s foreign trade from January to August, at USD 68.2 billion worth of cargo.
