{"id":202341,"date":"2018-10-09T12:08:50","date_gmt":"2018-10-09T15:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=202341"},"modified":"2019-06-30T18:38:19","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T21:38:19","slug":"unctad-to-host-world-investment-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/unctad-to-host-world-investment-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"UNCTAD to host World Investment Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unctad.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNCTAD<\/a>)\u00a0will host its 2018 World Investment Forum from October 22 to 26 at Palais des Nations, the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. UNCTAD said this Tuesday (9) that over 5,000 delegates from 160 countries are expected to attend. They will discuss major investment-for-development initiatives, under the theme Investing in Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGlobal flows of foreign direct investment fell by 23% in 2017. Cross-border investment in developed and transition economies dropped sharply, while growth was near zero in developing economies,\u201d a UNCTAD press release quoted UN secretary general Ant\u00f3nio Guterres as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith only a very modest recovery predicted for 2018, this negative trend is a long-term concern for policymakers worldwide, especially for developing countries,\u201d Guterres went on.<\/p>\n<p>According to the UNCTAD, private investments to the tune of USD 3.9 trillion a year in developing nations are required in order for the UN Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved by 2030. Current levels leave a USD 2.5 trillion investment gap.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions on attracting and channeling investment will involve more than 30 top executives from multinationals, 14 heads of state and government, 50 ministers from developing and developed countries and 21 heads from international organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Corporate players will include Coca-Cola, Lavazza, PwC, Siemens Financial Services, UBS and Nasdaq, alongside government officials from countries in Europe, Africa and Asia and delegates from the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the World Economic Forum, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Bank.<\/p>\n<p>The biennially-held forum will see its sixth edition.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more <a href=\"http:\/\/worldinvestmentforum.unctad.org\/#\/ms-1\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"credits-overlay\" data-target=\".wp-image-202337\">Fabrice Coffrini\/AFP<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The conference will run from October 22 to 26 in Geneva, Switzerland and 5,000 participants from 160 countries will attend.
