S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The city of Embu das Artes, in the S\u00e3o Paulo metro area, will host an Arab culture festival this Sunday (21). The first edition of the Arabian Fest will take place at Centro Cultural Mestre Assis do Embu, for free, simultaneously to the city\u2019s popular handcraft fair.<\/p>\n
The event will have performances of Arab dances, such as the belly dance, and exclusive spaces, for free, for Arab refugees (from Syria and Palestine, especially) to sell their products, such as handcraft items, costume jewelry, perfumes, veils and typical Arab food. The Arabian Fest will also include the reading of coffee grounds and cards and a concert by Arab singer Fady Sharief.<\/p>\n
Carla Bittar, a belly dance teacher, is the one organizing the event. \u201cOur goal is to gather dancers from the region of Embu das Artes and bring them closer to S\u00e3o Paulo, and also to embrace the Arab refugees, giving them a space to exhibit their products for free,\u201d said Bittar. It\u2019s a not-for-profit event.<\/p>\n
