S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center in Beirut will host culinary activities and songs from the state of Bahia, in Northeast Brazil, next Tuesday (27). The event is part of a bigger program called \u201cDiscovering Brazil: Bahia,\u201d which began in the first fortnight of this month in a bid to showcase the state\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n
Tuesday at 11 am will see a cooking workshop. Participants will be taught to make Xinxim de Galinha<\/em>, a kind of chicken stew, with rice, tapioca pudding and sequilho<\/em> biscuits.<\/p>\n On the same day there\u2019ll be a music performance and an exhibit of drawings from Urban Sketches, a movement of people who get together to draw outdoors. Works by artists from state capital Salvador, including Domingos Linheiro, Alejandra Hernandez Mu\u00f1oz and Simon Taylor, will be on display. From 7pm to 11pm, activities will focus on cordel<\/em> literature \u2013 cordel<\/em> is a tradition whereby stories are told in rhyme, through poetry or music \u2013, which originated from folk tales.<\/p>\n On November 14 and 21, The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center hosted two other Bahia cuisine workshops, covering dishes such as acaraj\u00e9, vatap\u00e1, feij\u00e3o fradinho, arroz do sert\u00e3o<\/em>. Yet another workshop for children and young people dealt with woodcutting.<\/p>\n The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center is an arm of the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut; it operates under the latter\u2019s culture and education department.
