The rate, released this Friday (23) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), fell in comparison to the rate registered in October of this year (0.58%) and in November of last year (0.32%).

The drop in November’s preliminary rate was caused especially by the housing and healthcare and personal care groups. Housing items registered a deflation of 0.13%, impacted by lower prices of electric energy (-1.46%) and gas cylinder (-0.37%).

Meanwhile, healthcare and personal care prices fell 0.35%, impacted by lower prices of pharmaceuticals (-0.28%) and personal care items (-2.56%). At the same time, food products, which surged 0.54% in November’s preliminary rate, prevented an even sharper fall of the preliminary rate. With a surge of 50.76% in prices, tomato was the villain in the consumers’ basket.

Translated by Sérgio Kakitani

Pedro Ventura/Agência Brasil

The Extended National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15) feel in comparison to the 0.58% registered in October.
