{"id":206651,"date":"2018-12-21T17:08:56","date_gmt":"2018-12-21T20:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=206651"},"modified":"2019-06-30T18:25:13","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T21:25:13","slug":"sesc-santo-andre-conducts-arab-tour-in-sao-paulo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/sesc-santo-andre-conducts-arab-tour-in-sao-paulo\/","title":{"rendered":"Sesc Santo Andr\u00e9 conducts Arab tour in S\u00e3o Paulo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Sesc Santo Andr\u00e9 will conduct the tour Arab Roots \u2013 Fabrics, Colors and Flavors, a walk through the center of S\u00e3o Paulo on Saturday 16 February 2019, passing through places such as P\u00e1tio do Col\u00e9gio and 25 de Mar\u00e7o street, and telling the history of Arab immigration to the city, especially Syrian and Lebanese.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea of the tour is showing which paths Syrian and Lebanese immigrants passed through in the city, how their presence shows, so we go to 25 de Mar\u00e7o street, their first concentration space, where it all begun; we talk about commerce and why they devoted themselves to some specific fields, and we use a number of cultural sites to tell a little about their religion and food,\u201d says Juliana Khouri, master in Arab Studies from Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), who will be guiding the tour.<\/p>\n<p>The tour begins at 7:30am, leaving Sesc Santo Andr\u00e9, taking a bus to P\u00e1tio do Col\u00e9gio, where S\u00e3o Paulo was founded. From there, it goes to 25 de Mar\u00e7o street, passing through specific clothes and fabric stores owned by Arab families; then it visits a little Orthodox church at Bas\u00edlio Jafet street, and stops at Mesquita Brasil at Bar\u00e3o de Jaguar\u00e1 street, in Cambuci, where they will talk to a local sheik.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the tour\u2019s price, the lunch break will be at the Arab restaurant Sabah at Club Homs at Avenida Paulista. Then, a stop at the Melkite Greek church at Para\u00edso street, and at the Orthodox Cathedral \u00a0<em>(photo)<\/em> at Vergueiro street. The return to Santo Andr\u00e9 is scheduled to 6pm. The schedule is subject to changes.<\/p>\n<p>The registration may be filed as of 8 January 2019, 3pm. The price for those with full credential is BRL 60.00, and may be paid in two installments; for those without credentials, the price is BRL 90.00, which may be paid in three installments.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested can make a pre-registration on the Sesc <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sescsp.org.br\/turismo\/8003_RAIZES+ARABES+TECIDOS+CORES+E+SABORES\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">portal<\/a> or through the call center, and a vacancy draw will be published January 10 at 3pm on the site. Those contemplated should turn up at Sesc Sandro Andr\u00e9 in order to pay. There are only 30 vacancies. Those with full Sesc credentials may register a family group, and those without it may include only two people.<\/p>\n<p>The tour is part of Sesc\u2019s social tourism project, which aims to value local cultural. \u201cSocial tourism is important to develop access and educate people through and for tourism, respecting diversity and promoting inclusion, because tourism makes it easier for people to encounter diversity and therefore shape better citizens,\u201d says Thiago Manfrini, tourism professional from Sesc.<\/p>\n<p>Arab Roots started at Sesc Consola\u00e7\u00e3o in 2016, having had three editions at that unit, and one at Sesc S\u00e3o Caetano.
