S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 An exhibition of 160 original pieces from Ancient Egypt, the Holy Land and Pompei, arrive at Macei\u00f3, Alagoas for the first time. Among the pieces are statues such as the goddess Bastet, and a Canaanite god from around 2000 BC, bought in an antique shop in Jerusalem. The pieces are brought together by the Itinerant Museum \u201cMist\u00e9rios do Antigo Egito e Terra Santa<\/a>\u201d (Mysteries of Ancient Egypt and the Holy Land) and runs until March 24.<\/p>\n

The project creator, Maisur Musa<\/a>, is a Palestinian-descendant collector. He made his first exhibition in April 1995, outside Florian\u00f3polis. Since then, 153 replicas he found joined the original pieces. They include sarcophagus of the pharaoh Tutankhamen (photo above)<\/em> and a bust of the queen Nefertiti (from around 1330 BC), and four mummies, which help people to learn a little more about the mummification process.<\/p>\n

The Pompei section includes settings and 91 original pieces focused on the life of those who lived during the time of the tragic eruption of Vesuvius, in 79 AC. Many pieces were bought in antique shops in Europe, United States, and Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

Aside from the exhibition, the project also organizes lectures for visitors and a video documentary. According to the museum\u2019s team, the lectures are about Egypt and consist of a guided tour lasting for about an hour, with slots for the general public on Saturdays and Sundays from 3 to 7 pm, as well as time slots for the schools to take their groups of students. The tickets give visitors the right to return to the show whenever they want so they can appreciate the entire collection and watch the lectures and the documentary.<\/p>\n
