{"id":210076,"date":"2019-03-05T07:00:42","date_gmt":"2019-03-05T10:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=210076"},"modified":"2019-06-30T16:31:53","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T19:31:53","slug":"art-dubai-receives-five-brazilian-artists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/art-dubai-receives-five-brazilian-artists\/","title":{"rendered":"Art Dubai receives five Brazilian artists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The 13<sup>th<\/sup> edition of one of the main international art fairs in the Middle East, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artdubai.ae\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Art Dubai<\/a>, receives twelve Latin American artists to take up its residency program \u2013 five of them Brazilians. They will be in the emirate for 4 to 8 weeks, producing artworks to be exhibited in the show from March 20 to 23. The other artists are from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba and Uruguay.<\/p>\n<p>Art Dubai is one of the main international art fairs in the Middle East and one of the most relevant events to see art in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, a region known as MENASA.<\/p>\n<p>The five Brazilian resident artists are Flora Rebollo (S\u00e3o Paulo) \u2013 <em>photo of her work above<\/em> \u2013 Luiz Roque (S\u00e3o Paulo), Alexandre da Cunha (S\u00e3o Paulo), and Laura Lima (Rio de Janeiro). The other Latin Americans are Ver\u00f3nica V\u00e1zquez (Uruguay), Luis Enrique L\u00f3pez-Ch\u00e1vez (Cuba), Jos\u00e9 Manual Mes\u00edas (Cuba), Luciana Lamothe (Argentina), Nicanor Ar\u00e1oz (Argentina), Mazenett Quiroga (Colombia), and Jerry B. Martin (Argentina).<\/p>\n<p>The artists will immerse themselves in the life and culture of the UAE and the local art scene to create new artworks for the fair merging their distinct artistic practice with their temporary surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>The project is co-curated by S\u00e3o Paulo-based curator and artistic director of the art space Piv\u00f4, Fernanda Brenner and Abu Dhabi-based Munira Al Sayegh. The second edition is sponsored by the UAE Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with residency spaces provided by Bait 15, Dubai Design District, Tashkeel and Warehouse421.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the resident\u2019s artworks, the painting \u201cA Grande \u00c1rvore\u201d [The Big Tree] (2018) by Brazilian Marcelo Moscheta lent by Galeria Vermelho (S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil) will also be shown in the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Art Dubai 2019 will bring together over ninety galleries from more then forty countries, divided in four sections: Contemporary, Modern, Bawwaba, and Residents. Bawwaba means gateway in Arabic and is a new section of the fair that features 10 solo presentations, showcasing works created within the last year . Bawwaba features works by artists from, based in, and\/or focused on projects about Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Central and South Asia. French-Cameroonian curator \u00c9lise Antagana will curate the section.<\/p>\n<p>The complete programming of Art Dubai, which also features lectures, performances, tours and workshops, may be found on the show\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artdubai.ae\/blog\/art-dubai-announces-full-programme-for-its-2019-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.
