The sixteen-year-old won the 2017 contest \u201cGenes in Space\u201d sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boeing<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.space.gov.ae\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UAE Space Agency<\/a> and the Abu Dhabi newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.ae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The National<\/em><\/a>. The contest encourages middle- and high-school students to create experiments on the effects of the space on DNA.<\/p>\n<p>According to information from the Emirates News Agency (<a href=\"http:\/\/wam.ae\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WAM<\/a>), Mansoori\u2019s experiment studied how gene expression changes induced by stress, such as by cosmic radiation and microgravity, can be detected in space.<\/p>\n<p>Her experiment was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in August 2017 aboard a Dragon capsule driven by a Space X Falcon 9 rocket as part of a refueling mission bound to the International Space Station.
