{"id":214248,"date":"2019-05-20T19:28:42","date_gmt":"2019-05-20T22:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=214248"},"modified":"2019-06-30T17:39:06","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T20:39:06","slug":"global-trade-to-remain-sluggish-this-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/global-trade-to-remain-sluggish-this-quarter\/","title":{"rendered":"Global trade to remain sluggish this quarter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The pace of global trade growth should stay slow this quarter, according to the World Trade Outlook Indicator released this Monday (20) by the World Trade Organization (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wto.org\/english\/news_e\/news19_e\/wtoi_20may19_e.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WTO<\/a>).\u00a0At 96.3 points, the indicator hints at more subdued growth than medium-term trends would imply. Scores lower than 100 indicate deceleration, and scores higher than 100 indicate acceleration.<\/p>\n<p>The indicator released this Monday is in line with figures from the previous February report, but it doesn\u2019t factor in impactful measures announced in the last few days \u2013 notably an escalation of the United States-China trade war.<\/p>\n<p>According to the WTO, all but two of indicator\u2019s six components dropped: \u201cexport orders\u201d and \u201celectronic components\u201d picked up but remain under 100. Scores dropped for \u201cinternational air freight,\u201d \u201cautomobile production and sales\u201d and \u201cagricultural raw materials.\u201d \u201cContainer port throughput\u201d also slid, but remains slightly higher than 100, which indicates an upward outlook according to medium-term trends.<\/p>\n<p>Last April, WTO economists had estimated that global trade in goods \u2013 which had climbed 3% in 2018 \u2013 would increase by 2.6% this year and then 3% in 2020.
