S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 President Jair Bolsonaro met with\u00a0DP World<\/a>\u00a0group CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem this Wednesday morning (22) at government seat Pal\u00e1cio do Planalto in Bras\u00edlia. The Dubai, UAE-based port operator made its first deal in Brazil six years ago by becoming a partner of the Embraport terminal, in Santos. It has since become its\u00a0sole proprietor<\/a> and rechristened the facility as DP World Santos<\/a>. The company had been involved with the seaport for at least\u00a0ten years<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0as reported on by ANBA<\/a> more than once at that time.<\/p>\n

After the meeting with president, Sulayem was quoted in a press release as saying the vision o the Bolsonaro administration, \u201cthrough liberal economic policies, is to take the country to a position where it is open for business and where investors can create jobs, infrastructure and wealth for a nation which has so much potential.\u201d According to Sulayem, DP World remains optimistic about growing its business in Brazil. \u201cI thanked the President and his cabinet members for their warm welcome and their open and frank discussion with us,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Sulayem had convened with Brazil\u2019s foreign minister Ernesto Ara\u00fajo on Monday (22), also in Bras\u00edlia. The agenda included social reforms, a stable, efficient regulatory framework to bring investments in, and public-private partnerships to encourage foreign direct investment.<\/p>\n

The DP World CEO also met with federal congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, the president\u2019s son; minister of Mines and Energy Bento Albuquerque, to discuss Brazil\u2019s energy system; and Infrastructure Ministry executive secretary Marcelo Sampaio, on how to improve national infrastructure.<\/p>\n

DP World

DP World Santos is the biggest private multimodal terminal in Brazil. It\u2019s set in the Port of Santos, which is the biggest such facility in Latin America. The terminal can handle 1.2 million TEU. December 2017 saw DP World buy out Odebrecht\u2019s stake in the port to attain 100% ownership.<\/p>\n

DP World is active in other Latin American countries, like Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Dominican Republic. It also has operations in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Oceania.<\/p>\n
