S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013\u00a0The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in Curitiba<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Ciro Flamarion Cardoso Archaeology Museum in Ponta Grossa<\/a>\u00a0will host the Day of the Mummy<\/em> on June 8. Intended for children aged 6 to 12, the activity will cover the myth of Osyris and mummification processes in Ancient Egypt.<\/p>\n

According to archaeologist Moacir Elias Santos, who works for both museums, there\u2019ll be a theater performance by staff, who’ll dress up as Ancient Egyptians and a 1920s archaeologist. They\u2019ll explain how mummification is done, while two \u2018embalmers\u2019 in full attire go to work on a doll.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis doll has extractable internal organs. Also, exact replicas of archaeological artifacts are used, including a mask of Anubis (pictured above<\/em>) donned by one of the performers,\u201d Santos told ANBA via email. A \u2018priestess\u2019 also tells the story of god Osyris.<\/p>\n

The performance was presented on May 18<\/a> as part of the National Museums Week celebrations (May 13-19). \u201cThe event got great feedback. It was attended by 40 children alongside parents or responsible adults,\u201d said Santos. \u201cIt got so much attention and so many people wanted to come that we decided to have a second edition,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
