Africa Week relied on support from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ecob.com.br\/pt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Egyptian Economic and Commercial Office in S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>. Activities began on May 18 and revolved around the culture and potential of the African continent.<\/p>\n<p>The group Fanta Konat\u00ea e os Tambores da Guin\u00e9, hailing from Guinea Conakry, performed folk African songs and dances (pictured). Bandleader Fanta Konat\u00ea is a singer, songwriter and dancer. Africa Week events included the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Sindiartes Fair at the Municipal Market, which featured African handicraft, replicas of the busts of Nefertiti and Tutankhamun \u2013 queen and king of Ancient Egypt \u2013 and workshops and lectures.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214819\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-214819\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-05-29-at-14.56.44.jpeg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-214819 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-05-29-at-14.56.44-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-05-29-at-14.56.44-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-05-29-at-14.56.44-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-05-29-at-14.56.44-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/anba.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-05-29-at-14.56.44.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-214819\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ambassador Osmar Chohfi: Brazil and Africa have close ties<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Speakers at the event included consul and Egyptian Office chief Mohamed Elkhatib; Afro-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (<a href=\"http:\/\/Afrochamber\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afrochamber<\/a>) president Rui Mucaje; African Cultural Center president Otunba Adekunle Aderonmu; and ambassador and Arab Brazilian Chamber International Relations vice president Osmar Chohfi.<\/p>\n<p>Chohfi pointed out the number of Arab countries in Africa. \u201cTen out of the 22 Arab countries are located in Africa. This event is important for two main reasons: first off, because it puts the spotlight on Brazil-Africa ties, which are very close ties. The majority of Brazil\u2019s population is of African descent. And apart from those human ties, Brazil managed to build a relationship of great mutual benefit with Africa over the past decades. And especially so in my case, because Egypt is in the African Union presidency. The Arab Chamber represents 22 countries, including all of the Arab countries in Africa, such as Egypt.
