As per data released this Thursday (6) by the National Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anfavea.com.br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anfavea<\/a>), 275,700 units were manufactured last month. Compared to April 2019, it was a 3.1% increase.<\/p>\n<p>Anfavea chairman Luiz Carlos Moraes said the significant growth in May 2019 was due to a comparison with a bad month for industry that was May 2018, thanks to the truckers\u2019 strike, which paralyzed cargo road transport in the country. \u201cThis growth is partly because the baseline of May last year suffered an eight-year impact,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Year through May, the industry saw an year-on-year 5.3% growth, with 1.24 million vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exports, however, declined 30.7% last month from a year ago. External sales reached 60.800 units. Year through May, 181,600 vehicles were shipped to other countries, down 42.2% from a year ago. According to Anfavea chairman, external sales are still being impacted by the crisis in Argentina, the leading buyer of Brazilian cars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Employment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the output increase, the number of people working in the car industry saw a 1.8% decline in May from a year ago.
