This drove total foreign investment in the country to AED 511 billion (USD 139 billion).<\/p>\n<p>Quoting the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unctad.org\/en\/Pages\/DIAE\/World%20Investment%20Report\/World_Investment_Report.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2019 World Investment Report<\/a> from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unctad.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNCTAD<\/a>), <em>WAM<\/em>\u00a0said the UAE was the 27<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0leading FDI destination in the world, climbing three positions compared with 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Last year the country was targeted by USD 10.4 billion in FDI, making it the premier Arab destination and the second biggest in Western Asia, trailing Turkey. The amount is slightly up from 2017 numbers.<\/p>\n<p>For the sake of comparison, Brazil saw USD 61.2 billion in FDI last year, down 9.4% year-on-year, and down one position in the world ranking.<\/p>\n<p>The UNCTAD also said the UAE went from 20<sup>th<\/sup> to 19<sup>th<\/sup> on the list of leading FDI issuer countries in the world, at USD 15 billion in 2018, up from USD 14 billion in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>World FDI flows came out to USD 1.3 trillion last year, down from USD 1.5 trillion in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"credits-overlay\" data-target=\".wp-image-216203\">Karim Sahib\/AFP<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The amount of foreign direct investment which entered the country from 2016 to 2018 was the 27th biggest in the world.
