{"id":216747,"date":"2019-06-29T07:00:12","date_gmt":"2019-06-29T10:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=216747"},"modified":"2019-06-28T17:25:22","modified_gmt":"2019-06-28T20:25:22","slug":"portuguese-course-available-to-immigrants-and-refugees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/portuguese-course-available-to-immigrants-and-refugees\/","title":{"rendered":"Portuguese course available to immigrants and refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Inter-Department Language Center of the School of Philosophy, Language and Human Sciences (FFLCH) at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP) is offering a <a href=\"http:\/\/clinguas.fflch.usp.br\/node\/3898?fbclid=IwAR0266EGfrNnc4xvvHs8SEAlAuCWl2Xml9hv3_VzXnXXQiq_xCLlQBqIu24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free advanced Portuguese conversation and writing course<\/a> to immigrants and refugees.<\/p>\n<p>Enrolments must be made at 4pm on August 7 at <em>Casa de Cultura Japonesa<\/em>, in the USP\u2019s <em>Cidade Universit\u00e1ria<\/em> campus. Twenty seats will be on offer on a first-come, first-served basis. \u00a0Classes will be taught by Paola Mandal\u00e1 in the facility\u2019s 1<sup>st<\/sup> floor meeting room every Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm, from August 14 to October 2.<\/p>\n<p>The course is intended to enable students to practice and prepare for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/portal.inep.gov.br\/acoes-internacionais\/celpe-bras\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celpe-Bras<\/a>\u00a0proficiency exam. Topics will include comprehension during the exam\u2019s oral and written parts; study of recurrent text genres; a simulation using questions from past years; and vocabulary expansion.<\/p>\n<p>The bulk of students in past editions of the course were from Syria and the Philippines, and some hailed from South America, Asia and the Middle East. Muslim women taking the course who couldn\u2019t find nursery homes for their children were able to bring them alone.
