From the Newsroom* <\/STRONG><\/P> S\u00e3o Paulo – Brazilian exports of chicken meat yielded US$ 296.7 million in February, a 21.48% increase compared with the same month last year. A total of 232,200 tonnes were shipped, a 16.76% increase using the same basis for comparison. The data were disclosed today (21) by the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef).<\/P> In the first two months this year, exports have already yielded US$ 561.78 million, representing a 7% increase compared with the first two months of 2006. Exports amounted to 441,260 tonnes, a 6.95% increase compared with the same period last year.<\/P> The Middle East countries were the largest importers, volume-wise, of Brazilian chicken meat. A total of 132,000 tonnes of the product were exported, 24.72% more than in January and February 2006. Exports to the region amounted to US$ 150.87 million in the first two months, a 19.37% increase. Sales to European Union countries resulted in a revenue of US$ 151.99 million in the first two months. A total of 73,990 tonnes of the product were shipped.<\/P> To Asian countries, Brazil exported US$ 137.27 million in chicken meat, which corresponded to 112,190 tonnes shipped. Sales to Africa totalled US$ 25.42 million, with 34,190 thousand tonnes exported.
