S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Brazilian pianist Arthur Moreira Lima (pictured above)<\/em>, one of Brazil\u2019s most important classical musicians, will give his first concert in Lebanon on Saturday (13). The artist will perform at 7:30 pm at the Lady of Seeds Church, Antonine University<\/a>, Main Campus, Hadat-Baabda. The concert is organized by the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center<\/a> together with the university. Entrance is free.<\/p>\n

The repertoire will include compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin, Ludwig van Beethoven, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Ernesto Nazareth, Astor Piazzola, Radam\u00e9s Gnattali, Luiz Gonzaga, and Pixinguinha, according to information from Moreira Lima. He has chosen an introduction with Bach\u2019s \u201cJesus, Joy of Man\u2019s Desiring,\u201d Beethoven\u2019s \u201cMoonlight Sonata,\u201d and Chopin\u2019s \u201cPolonaise in A flat major,\u201d according to the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal is mixing classical and popular music. Classics that are so well-known that became popular and popular songs whose quality made them classics,\u201d he told ANBA by email. Arthur Moreira Lima is known for his unique take on Villa-Lobos, Radam\u00e9s Gnattali, and Ernesto Nazareth, three great Brazilian composers.<\/p>\n

Moreira Lima says he has great expectations for the concert in Lebanon. \u201cIt\u2019s always a new experience, and I hope this is the first of a series,\u201d he writes. Lebanon is described by the artist as a place where the Arab culture meets the other cultures in the world. \u201cIn Brazil, the Arab influence is very important and the participation of Brazilian citizens from Lebanon is a landmark in our multiracial culture,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n

The pianist told ANBA he has many friends of Arab origin in Brazil and innumerous Arab study partners in Europe. Arthur Moreira will turn 79 while he is in Lebanon, as per information made public by the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center. His birthday is July 16.<\/p>\n

Moreira Lima came to the world attention in 1965 when he was awarded Second Prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. After this, the Brazilian won other important competitions and traveled around the globe performing concerts and presenting with some of the world\u2019s best orchestras. He is considered responsible for the revival of Ernest Nazareth\u2019s music, having recorded the composer\u00b4s complete piano music.<\/p>\n

Following a well-established career, Moreira Lima started the project \u201cUm Piano pela Estrada<\/a>\u201d [A Piano on the Road] in 2003, as part of an effort to make classical music more democratic. Mixing popular and classical songs on a truck-theater that becomes the stage, the project has already traveled every region in Brazil. Through this project,he played for approximately 1 million people, even in some very isolated places.<\/p>\n

According to information released by the concert\u2019s organizers in Lebanon, the presentation was made possible through the support of Royal Air Maroc and sponsored by the winery Vertical 33.<\/p>\n
