S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Later this month, the Virada Sustent\u00e1vel will present several art performances, workshops, lectures and other activities in S\u00e3o Paulo. The event is the largest festival on sustainability in Brazil and has had editions in more than five cities.<\/p>\n
The Virada is guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations (UN). The festival schedule also includes the F\u00f3rum Virada Sustent\u00e1vel. The debates feature organizations that discuss topics such as water shortage, sanitation, and smart sustainable cities.<\/p>\n
The activities are free to participate but some of them require registration through the website<\/a>. The event feature representatives from the civil society organizations, public bodies, culture groups, social movements, companies, schools, and universities. The festival also features cultural performances and a virtual-reality short films show with productions such as \u201cRiver Of Mud,\u201d (pictured above<\/em>). The movie addresses the Samarco bam disaster in Mariana, Minas Gerais, in 2015, and its environmental impact.<\/p>\n The musical schedule of the festival features the musical group Orquestra Mundana Refugi, which brings together Brazilians, immigrants and refugees. The performance, musically directed by Carlinhos Antunes, presents traditional themes from countries such as Palestine, Congo and Brazil. The instruments range from the qanun (an instrument that descends from an ancient Egyptian harp) to the accordion, and include piano, violin, Chinese sitar, bouzouki (related to the lute) and others.<\/p>\n Mundana Refugi started from a project by Orquestra Mundana, which has been around for 15 years.
