S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Pontifical Catholic University in Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS<\/a>) is hosting Findings on Neferet<\/em>, an event focusing on a recent find by local archaeologists. In-depth information will be made available on the process whereby the researchers proved the age, gender and origin of the mummified head that was dubbed Iret-Neferet<\/a>. The piece had been brought to Brazil in the 1950s, where it sat in a museum in Cerro Largo, Rio Grande do Sul.<\/p>\n

Panel discussions will take place on Wednesday (14) and Thursday (15). The event is open to the public and admission is free. Registration will be available at the event venue itself \u2013 the Ir. Jos\u00e9 Ot\u00e3o Auditorium at the PUC\u2019s Hospital S\u00e3o Lucas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe event is designed to show the different fields of research that came into play: Carbon-14 dating, the craniometry and cranioscopy whereby the gender was determined, for instance,\u201d Edison H\u00fcttner, a professor in PUC-RS postgraduate History course, told ANBA.<\/p>\n

The speakers will be the researchers from the Study Group in Afro-Egyptian Identities, from the PUC-RS School of Humanities, who presented the findings on Neferet last May. The mummified head will be on display at the venue. On the 16th<\/sup>, it will be returned to the Cerro Largo Museum, which relinquished the item temporarily so the research could be done.<\/p>\n

Apart from the research work, the event will feature a digital 3D reconstruction of the mummy\u2019s head (pictured<\/em>). The research was done by a team including 3D designer C\u00edcero Andrade da Costa Moraes, who also did the digital recreation of another mummy \u2013 Tothmea<\/a>. On the 14th<\/sup>, Findings on Neferet <\/em>will cover interdisciplinary research, dentistry in the dating process, gender determination through craniometry and cranioscopy, and ageing in Ancient Egypt (700-300 BC). On the 15th<\/sup>, the team will reveal details about mummification techniques, isolation of microorganisms, the facial recreation of Iret-Neferet, the history of Medicine in Ancient Egypt, and the mummification process.<\/p>\n
