The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/328031398150997\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">event<\/a> is part of the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/musicanomuseufan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Music at the Museum<\/a> project, designed to popularize Brazilian classical music abroad.<\/p>\n<p>The recital will include Canaud\u2019s own compositions, as well as pieces by Chiquinha Gonzaga, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Radam\u00e9s Gnattali, Ernesto Nazareth, Claudio Santoro, Carlos Cruz, Guerra Peixe, Francisco Mignone, Edino Krieger, Ronaldo Miranda and Ricardo Tacuchian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea is to showcase hybrid classical-popular pieces in various styles, like a menu of assorted sweets,\u201d said the pianist, according to whom her <em>Prel\u00fadio n\u00ba 1<\/em> is a classical composition which evokes <em>bossa nova<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited about going to Lebanon for the first time. I\u2019ve been trying to go for many years now, and the time has finally come. I intend to do it on a regular basis going forward, since now I\u2019m living in Portugal, which makes it easier,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Canaud holds a doctorate in Music from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She\u2019s been living in Portugal since last February, and teaching at a university in Covilh\u00e3, a city near Serra da Estrela. \u201cI\u2019m the pianist who sits in for wind instrument classes, which is odd for me, because I\u2019ve always been the one to teach,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from her academic work, Canaud plays Brazilian popular and classical music, and has performed around the world in cities including Paris, Amsterdam, London, Lisbon, Coimbra, Madrid, Bogota. She has released four solo piano albums and has been featured in numerous collections.<\/p>\n<p>After the Beirut show, the Brazilian pianist will play three other cities in Lebanon: Ajaltoun, on September 13, Zahle, on the 16<sup>th<\/sup>, and Tripoli on the 19<sup>th<\/sup>.
