S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazil\u2019s minister of Foreign Affairs Ernesto Ara\u00fajo (pictured, on the right<\/em>) met on Friday (27) with Arab League secretary-general Ahmed Aboul Gheit (left<\/em>) in New York, in the sidelines of the 74th<\/sup> Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The League quoted Gheit<\/a> as underscoring the depth of historical ties binding the Arab world and Brazil.<\/p>\n

The secretary-general said these ties are a foundation on which to develop relations in every field. He said he trusts Brazil not to take any action that could damage its relations with the Arab world, by upholding its years-long policy of not moving its Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem<\/a>, and by not infringing international law.<\/p>\n

The Arab League also reported that Aboul Gheit was pleased with Ara\u00fajo\u2019s assertion that Brazil\u2019s relations with Israel do not detract from its relations with the Arab countries, since Brazil recognizes the relevance of said relations, and of the cultural and civilizational ties that bind Arabs and Brazilians.<\/p>\n

Minister Ernesto Ara\u00fajo also had meetings with the foreign ministers Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah of Kuwait, Ibrahim Bin Abdulaziz Al Assaf of Saudi Arabia, and Gebran Bassil of Lebanon.<\/p>\n
