S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Exhibition \u201cWalls of Air\u201d, which was part of the Brazilian pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Bienale (pictured above)<\/em>, is set to take place next Wednesday (9) at Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center in Beirut. The show consists of high-end models of 17 buildings and their explanation panels by Brazilian architects.<\/p>\n

The opening of the exhibition is set to take place on October 9\u00a0<\/sup>at 7 pm and will be preceded by a talk by one of the exhibition curators, architect Laura Gonz\u00e1lez Fierro, who lives New York and founded FIERRO, a studio with projects in Mexico City, S\u00e3o Paulo, New York and Miami in architecture, urban planning, design and consulting.<\/p>\n

The works that are part of \u201cWalls of Airs\u201d were selected through an open public call for 2018 Venice Bienale. The pieces encourage the transposition of walls and limits in Brazil and its architecture. In the public open call, the wall was proposed as an element of Brazilian architecture, culture and identity, and its transposition as an invitation for coexistence and diversity.<\/p>\n

According to a press release made public by Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center, the selected works share the drive to investigate new ways of dealing with the limits, divisions and ruptures within urban fabrics. They were chosen for their inspiring and tangible ideas to transform their environment into one that is more fluid and inclusive.<\/p>\n

The projects address issues such as how to bring people together to fight for a common cause against forces of financial land speculation, how to rethink our technological limitations, how a community can learn by building collectively, how to bridge large infrastructure corridors, how to densify uses as a means of bringing a community together, and how to rethink preserved areas as carefully calibrated public spaces, among other strategies. In addition to Laura, curators are Gabriel Kozlowski, Marcelo Maia Rosa, and Sol Camacho.<\/p>\n

The show in Beirut is supported by Bienal de S\u00e3o Paulo Foundation, National Foundation of Arts (Funarte) and Brazil\u2019s Embassy to Beirut, which Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center is a part of. Entrance is free, but it\u2019s necessary to book a seat since places are limited. The free exhibition will run until November 8 from Monday to Friday, 10 am to 8 pm.<\/p>\n
