The rate is lower than the inflation of 0.11% in August and 0.48% in September last year. The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported this Wednesday (9) that inflation reached 2.49% year-to-date and 2.89% in the 12 months leading to September.

September’s deflation was driven by a 0.43% price decline in food and beverages. Foodstuff to be consumed at home now cost 0.70% less in average. The main declines were recorded by tomato (-16.17%), which was the individual item that most impacted IPCA; potato (-8.42%), onion (-9.89%); and fruits (-1.79%). But some foodstuff saw a hike, including UHT milk (1.58%) and beef (0.25%).

Translated by Guilherme Miranda

Tânia Rego/Agência Brasil

[91
4875,11866,11098,9757,11867,9758,11868,11870,11872,11862,11871,11869
0":"post-259425","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-economy","8":"tag-deflation","9":"tag-deflation-in-september","10":"tag-extended-national-consumer-price-index","11":"tag-inflation-en","12":"tag-inflation-ibge","13":"tag-ipca-en","14":"tag-ipca-september","15":"tag-price-decline","16":"tag-tomate-en","17":"tag-tomate","18":"tag-tomato","19":"tag-tomato-price
["GET
