S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 The Embassy of Bahrain to Brazil\u2019s capital Bras\u00edlia, which opened last year, celebrated the Arab country\u2019s national day for the first time in the city, last Tuesday evening (10) at the Mount Lebanon Club.<\/p>\n

The official date is December 16, and according to the Embassy it marks the establishment of the State of Bahrain as a Muslim Arab country founded by Ahmed Al-Fateh in 1783; the country\u2019s admission to the UN; and the rise to the throne of Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, father to incumbent king Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.<\/p>\n

Brazil and Bahrain established diplomatic ties in 1974. \u201cThe growing and perseverant ties that unite the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Federal Republic of Brazil go back 45 years. Last year, the Kingdom of Bahrain opened its first embassy in South America, and it was in Brazil\u2019s capital, Bras\u00edlia, because the Kingdom of Bahrain aspires to build strategic relations with Brazil,\u201d a note from the Embassy quoted charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires Bader Abbas Al-Hulaibi (pictured at beginning of story<\/em>) as saying.<\/p>\n

According to the Embassy, the ceremony was attended by Brazilian government officials, diplomats, journalists, and civilian delegates. Among them was Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Middle East Department director Sidney Romeiro, Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brazil dean and Palestine ambassador Ibrahim Alzeben, and ambassadors Ali Abdullah Bahitham of Saudi Arabia, Abdelmoniem Ahmed Alamin Elhussain of Sudan, and Toufik Dahmani of Algeria.<\/p>\n
