Lute player and singer Sami Bordokan (<em>pictured above<\/em>) will perform an Egypt-centric repertoire tailored over the span of decades. The concert is part of the CCBB\u2019s educational program for S\u00e3o Paulo. It will take place concurrently with the exhibition <a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/rio-venue-to-host-mega-exhibit-on-ancient-egypt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ancient Egypt \u2013 From Everyday to Eternity<\/a>, currently on show at the CCBB.<\/p>\n<p>The 2-hour concert is free of charge. The setlist will include folk songs and Bordokan\u2019s own compositions, permeated by unique improvisation and featuring lute, qanun \u2013 a string instrument \u2013 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/brazilian-luthier-from-rio-manufactures-arab-instruments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">darbuka<\/a> drum.<\/p>\n<p>The concert and the exhibit are an offering from M\u00faltiplo Ancestral, a knowledge- and culture-sharing platform combining memory and heritage, targeting the general public as well as scholars from different fields and cultural practices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The lute player<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sami Bordokan was born in S\u00e3o Paulo, in 1973, to parents originally from Akkar, Lebanon. His father was also a lute player and singer, and he picked up the instrument at age six. In his teens, he spent time studying the instrument and Eastern singing in Lebanon. Bordokan immersed himself in classical Arab music, especially from Andalusia.<\/p>\n<p>He also travelled to Syria and North Africa to study Eastern music scales (maqamat charqie) and Arab rhythms and styles like the longa and the dulab.
