With a capacity of 14 gigawatts-hour (GWh), the facility opened last week in Porteirinha, northern Minas Gerais.<\/p>\n<p>Built under tender by utility company EDP, the plant will supply 100 branches across the state, saving up BRL 80 million in 12 years\u2019 time. The plant features 19,000 panels across a 20-hectare area \u2013 enough to supply 5,833 households with an average annual consumption of 2,400 kWh.<\/p>\n<p>The power gets routed to the system of state utility Companhia Energ\u00e9tica de Minas Gerais (Cemig)., which incorporates the energy into its network and returns it as credit to bank\u2019s power bills.
