{"id":270666,"date":"2020-04-01T16:51:37","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T19:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/?p=270666"},"modified":"2020-04-01T17:28:12","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T20:28:12","slug":"uae-enacts-law-regulating-food-stockpiles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anba.com.br\/en\/uae-enacts-law-regulating-food-stockpiles\/","title":{"rendered":"UAE enacts law regulating food stockpiles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 A federal law regulating food inventories was passed in the United Arab Emirates to ensure food security amid crises, emergencies and disasters, <em>Emirates News Agency<\/em> (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/wam.ae\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WAM<\/a><\/em>)\u00a0reported. The law was enacted by UAE president and Abu Dhabi emir Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the act\u2019s provisions concern suppliers and registered businesses, as well as the duties of the Ministry of Economy. The latter is tasked with providing reports, studies, statistics and economic assessments on food items, as well as estimating consumption needs, surpluses or deficits, and providing databanks on production and availability both domestically and in supplying countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry will oversee suppliers, coordinate and roll out inventory sustainability and safety policies. The work will be done in tandem with bodies including the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA).<\/p>\n<p>WAM said registered suppliers and businesses will be required to manage strategic inventories of food items and their storage, as well as the location, area and size of storage facilities within the UAE\u2019s territory. Inventory keeping must comply with specifications and standards.<\/p>\n<p>The new law provides that registered suppliers and businesses are eligible for incentives, and non-compliance penalties are also in place, including fines in the AED 500,000-AED 2 million range. AED 100,000 to AED 1 million fines will also be charged on violations of electronic links with authorities on inventory issues, or violation of strategic item management.<\/p>\n<p>UAE minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri said the law reinforces the country\u2019s food security system and complements efforts to deal with the unconventional circumstances facing the entire world.
