According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spa.gov.sa\/viewfullstory.php?lang=en&amp;newsid=2093415#2093415\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SPA<\/a>, the country\u2019s official news agency, prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Saudi minister of Culture, has announced the establishing of Thunaiyat Ad-Diriyah Foundation, specially designed to be responsible for the events. The minister will also be the chairman of the recently established foundation.<\/p>\n<p>According to newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.ae\/arts-culture\/art\/saudi-arabia-to-host-ad-diriyah-biennale-foundation-for-contemporary-art-in-2021-1.1027321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The National<\/a>, the inaugural event in 2021 will be dedicated to contemporary art, while Islamic art will be highlighted in 2022, so the themes will alternate.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation is named after Ad Diriyah (<em>pictured above<\/em>), a town located on outskirts of the capital, Riyadh. <em>The National <\/em>reports that, through the biennale and other planned initiatives, the Saudis aim to evolve the country\u2019s contemporary arts scene and position Ad Diriyah as a regional and international hub for culture.<\/p>\n<p>Ad Diriyah holds significance to Saudi Arabia as it is regarded as the birthplace of the Saudi state.
