The Arab dish is made from ingredients including bulgur, mint and tomato. As he cooks, Jeratli will explain Arabic terms related to the dish. There are only six slots left for the class.

The event is part of a series of cultural workshops hosted by the Immigration Museum and the NGO, which works to empower refugees and encourage them to share experiences and find ways to earn an income. The workshop will be taught in Portuguese, interspersed with Arabic.

Each presentation in the series will be delivered via the Zoom app by migrant or refugee teachers, in different languages, up until July 7. Each class will last an hour and a half, with limited openings. Registrations will be validated via email by the Immigration Museum, which will provide a list of items required to cook the dish so the participants can get them ahead of time.

The workshop is part of the Museum of Immigration’s Cultural Quarantine, featuring live streams, seminars and workshops since last March. Past workshops have included the ‘History of Morocco’ with Yassine Benfaqyrah, who discussed her native country (in French). Some of the contents, including the seminar “Displacements: asylum and immigration during the pandemic,” held on May 20, are available on the Museum’s YouTube channel.

Quick facts

Cultural Workshop | Arab Cuisine: Tabbouleh
Date: June 30
Time: 5pm
Platform: Zoom
Immigration Museum (temporarily closed)
Phone: +55 11 2692-1866
www.museudaimigracao.org.br

Translated by Gabriel Pomerancblum

Press Release

Next Tuesday (30), Ali Jeratli of Syria will teach an online lesson how to cook tabbouleh, while also explaining the meaning of a few words.
