S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 Brazilian oil company Petrobras announced yesterday (7) one more oil discovery in the pre-salt layer in Santos Basin, on the southeastern shore of Brazil. According to information disclosed by the company, the discovery was made by a consortium established by the Brazilian oil company (65%), with BG Group (25%) and Galp Energia (10%).<\/p>\n
The field was found in block BM-S-11, where the Tupi reserves were also found. The new reserves, named Iara, are found in a smaller area of the original block at a distance of 230 kilometres from Rio de Janeiro and at a water depth of 2,230 metres, according to Petrobras.<\/p>\n
The reserves discovered are at a total depth of 5,600 metres and the fact was announced at the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel Agency (ANP), informed the company.<\/p>\n
Petrobras also announced that the well is still being drilled and that, after this work is concluded, the consortium should proceed with the necessary investment to verify the dimensions of the field.<\/p>\n
