The move was made public in the minutes of the 12<sup>th<\/sup> BRICS Summit Meeting (<em>pictured above<\/em>), held online on Tuesday (18).<\/p>\n<p>The meeting minutes also espouse international cooperation to address the Covid-19 pandemic and equitable distribution of a safe, effective vaccine. The BRICS also call for a reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to enable the defense of developing countries, prevent protectionism by wealthy nations, and to work for a \u201cmore resilient\u201d global supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>Currently presided by Russia, the BRICS are pushing for comprehensive reforms and the adding of countries to the UN Security Council. Comprising United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom as permanent members, the Council is the primary instance for the settlement of disputes in the international system. It also features ten rotating members elected for two-year terms. Brazil has been one of the countries most often appointed for a non-permanent seat.
